Just receive a package from Japan using EMS, just like first tought it is late a few days.

The sealed is messed and wrapped with dirty plastic bag like usual.

One more problem is my friend sent me a food supplement tablet and it was open and didn't closed properly. so it's humid inside and sticked around (I guess it can't be use anymore)
I wonder what these post staffs thinking? maybe they tought its candy or something... or they can't read english (even its from Japan, the product title clearly written in English)

I hope nothig elae is missing, these kind of case is always happen in Indonesia, so better careful when you want to sent somethig to your friends or family here.
This is not my first experience too, I have been facig this trouble a few time in my life.

The company is under goverment and it sux, they need to manage it professionally, I hope one day they will.

It's been a long time~ I actually forgot about my blog. Been lost in habit recently.
I have been following the news about iPhone 5 recently, but finally today the truth reveal that there is no iPhone 5 yet.

Honestly I am not that yet whole disappointed yet, first I still like my iPhone 4 design. and the new camera feature is sound amazing.
I can see that most readers are disappointed with the news. Either they are androids fans or apple fans, for me... it doesn't matter. I will keep my iPhone and thinking to get an androids phone myself.

Well, can't wait to get to test the iPhone 4s

Nissan Motor VS Nissan Computer

When I looking at the cars website and suddenly I found this website, it is mention that they are being sued by nissan motor for using the domain name and damage the company name.
Well I would judged what happened between them, but honestly the nissan computer aren't convincing enough.

First, I post my comment on their website and actually my opinion is more saying that I don't really call their complain, but my message/opinion doesn't show on their website directly. It seem the owner of the domain are filtering the commentator (well it's not really open anyway)

Secondly, their company website shows no professionalism. I would say if you own a company and seriously that is your business, I would at least create a proper website for sure... at least start with the logo. Especially if you already mention how long the company is already running right?
At least show professionalism of the website development. It just show seriousness of your company.

Third, The website shows too much advertising banner, They (nissan computer) say that they are not taking advantage of the name (nissan motor) but it seem they are taking advantage of nissan.com
and basically nissan motor brand are way bigger than theirs. I am not saying that I don't blame because they are small. But just say, if I am them... nissancomputer.com would be more making sense for my business as (causing my customer) entering the wrong website and end up to nissan motor website rite?

My opinion for them are saying, better sell the domain and do the right thing for their business, such as starting creating a logo, design a better website, and do the right branding for their company.
Rather put the "Nissan VS Nissan" banner on the top than their company logo. That is just weird and not making sense, if your business is running well... I wouldn't do something so.

Last, it just advertising banner everywhere... I read their passport even their birth cert. but still but... I have seen this kind of cases a lot, especially in my country (indonesia) and some cases in China.
It just make me sick, and they really taking the advantage for make money. I wouldn't say it's a nice thing to do, except if you really want to make business with them, and just to secure your business.

Btw, mr nissan (computer) say that they know nissan was datsun, it's true... but they already using Nissan motor since 1934, I guess he should have heard or study about the cars, since he (nissan computer founder) register the nissan.com in 1994 and he was in car dealer business also. and btw digest.com also under their registrant name, well you decide.

Anyway this is my proper opinion.

oh Telkom Indonesia

today I am trying to register a new phone line, the house developer give me the proposal letter for telkom, and i just need to bring to the telkom offceto process the rest.

everything is not as easy as it sound, the customer service (counter no.2) said that the are not sure if the line is available on my area but I told her if the line ia not available then the developer office should have already told me.

but she insist for me to check with someone in charge, which i thinkshe is the one who have to check. and today is friday, where muslim has a jumatan custom. so finalky i can reach the person at 1pm

The guy told me that the line is tottaly ready!
so I drive back to telkom office hoping everything can be settle today, and guess what. It's 14:00 and 3 of 5 customer service are on break time, arent they suppose or better do it by shift?

and there so manh people queuing for next turn, it show number 64 and my number is 74
what a nice way to serve your customer.

Telkom Speedy 2010 Review

Hi, its been a while I didnt update any review about isp.
Just last week I registered again for telkom speedy ADSL 2Mbps (Paket Executive) for 2Mbps download and 512Kbps upload.
This time i am comparing the test with local and overseas servers to see the Stability of the speed. Let's see the results,...

Testes on Surabaya server (I live in Surabaya by the way) so this is suppose to be the closest server feom my home

And this one is directed to Jakarta server, and it seem it goes to telkom own server and thats why it goes faster... bery local I guess
So from here view that the line is true 2Mbps...

Now let's try the far server on my list (speedtest iphone) is Okinawa, Japan.
hmmmm somehow the dowbload speed is not even reach 100kbps, while the upload are still stable even not reach 500kbps...

Let see on Singapore server, i guess this country is pretty close to Indonesia rite?
Surprisigly the test cant even reach 1Mbps also while the upload speed are still ok above 400Kbps

This one is directed to Malaysia/Kuala Lumpur's server. it seem that the download is more faster than singapore server.

Let try Hongkong server! hmmmm
it seem the same ... i cant even go reqch a ove 500kbps while upload is still fine level

and the last one is adelide (Australia) I this this country also pretty close, ans the speed remind the same.

My conclusion:
It seem that speedy is agaim playing tricks ontheir customer... somehow the speed are full only for local server, not even to closest country, the results from upstream is telling the truth, while moat upload speex are pretty stable above 400Kbps and even not reach 500Kbps ... but the rest of the country it seem capped by telkom.
No wonder the cut the monthly fee...

How can this become a mass media so suddenly?
First question is who is he?
He is one of the famous band in Indonesia. And what make him to be hot topic today is the private videos he has with withing this 3 days.
And today the national news actually broadcast about it. So everyone is talking about them. while myself wasn't t really know anything about it either. And now I know -__-;

it's funny how the bad news spread so fast (well, some people take it as a good news)
and how slow the good news spread.

I am very sorry for what happened to them. I am sure this video just intended to be private. some news mention that it came from the stolen laptop of Ariel of Peterpan/porn.
And some forum mention that there is about 30 videos of him with other celebrities. Let just wait and see if the person are cruel enough to spread everything.

This is show how powerful the media in Indonesia, it's only need a direction, a right direction I mean :)

Here is what I have been waiting for a while, since the leaked review a few weeks ago by gizmodo. I am actually consider to sell my iphone 3Gs to iPad 3G, since I don't really use the phone feature that much. My working phone I use is my blackberry btw, and I use my iphone basically for blogging, portfolio gallery & entertainment purposes -___-;
Honestly, I have been using blackberry & iphone together for more than 2 years now. My first blackberry curved and iphone 3G both are very useful, you can't just compare each other. The funny part is actually both are not the best gadget yet. If you live in asia, 3Mpx camera are so old tech here and no front camera for video chat that is not 3G -___-;
Well, I have to admit, the winning part for these phones are the apps and the features. While blackberry has a nice connectivity features with blackberry messenger & push email on default, other than that, is really crappy phone I must say. While iphone has a million option for the apps, games and other accessories. I think that's the most fun part, the concept of the phone itself are very interesting.

Now iPhone 4 is announced, will at least have LED flash, front camera for video call/chat. and what I really looking for are the new high-res screen!! its 960x640px! well that's a high resolution screen I must say~ the 5Mpx and LED flash is not impress me very much, but the screen is... I can imagine how my picture will looks good to show it there :)
oh and I like the new design for the phone too, flat backside is better i think. I hope it not easy to scratchy here and there like the previous one.

The iphone OS4 will be called iOS4, I haven't try it yet, but the multi-tasking (finally) will finally make the iphone feeling a little more free.
Battery also have better performance comparing to iphone 3G & 3Gs. where I can't understand, when I turn on the push features, these battery just drain out for half day -___-;
I wonder if apple will fix this, other ways the "find my phone" also useless. I have no problem when the push feature is off tho, it's totally fine~ the battery can last longer (like normal phone)
I don't blame apple 100% on this, as my blackberry bold also facing the same problem, which at the end I never turn on my 3G on my blackberry bold (only when in Japan)

Telkomsel Flash review

After a while complaining about telkomsel flash service (3G Internet service) where we never experience the 3G actually.

This morning I was wondering if my last test using ipad was not a dream, and see it for yourself :)

tested on local server (Surabaya)
now I can see that they don't limit the bandwidth, this how to teat the real speed you have before you test to international server.
if in local server is just up to 256kbps, don't expect to get faster on server in US or Japan.

This is the farest server I can get from my speedtest on iPhone somehow, I'm not sure why the app didn't list the complete server.
not bad huh?

now tested on australia server, this would be fine for mobile interet using on iPhone tho, even I would love to have more speed... rite? my iPhone 3Gs can go up to 7Mbps. and I never taste the speed over 1Mbps.

now let's talk about the bad news...
the bad are the limitation of usage. believe it or not, my unlimited flash is change to unlimited with limited usage -___-
telkomsel still using the term of unlimited for this service, but honestly it is not a real unlimited what other country is offering for the customer.

here is the new deal without prior notice.
The limit is 1Gb of Upstream and Downstream, means the total of using of download and upload combined.
After using the reasonable usage (according to telkomsel) the bandwidth will be limited the speed up to 64kbps
some on the telkomsel website also mention additional charge for Rp1/kb means Rp1000/mb and if you are using for 100Mb, then they will charge you Rp100.000-

my fair use is 805mb left
... I'm not sure I would feel fair enough
but I'm pretty satisfied with the speed now. I hope telkomsel will improve for customer satisfaction.

The sad truth about the design in Surabaya are the unity for Graphic Designers community. This culture is built since the city are an industrial city, where every businessman think others as a rival and competitors that one day they gonna take over their world.

The lack of sharing and insecurity are the reason to create a stuck business in Surabaya, it's either in design or other business. I honestly feel about this thing a few years ago, but I wasn't so sure the reason, now the more I see are the reason of the culture of the city it self.

First, the way they do business; money talk more than action. These create a culture that everything can bought by money, who has more has more respect. I wouldn't say that this is not happening in other country or city but wait! there is something else here. This city are created or born by those kind of people I think, and the worst part are the people who is lack of knowledge and conservative about things they believe are the one held the economy in Surabaya.

Just say this case for an example, there is a restaurant the run successfully for a steak business just say, and the other businessman see that as an opportunity for making more profit. Well what you gonna do? he just find a way to meet and directly meet with the chef of that restaurant. Then offer him something bigger, and that's where it start.

Somehow this culture effecting other part of business in such area as design and photography business too. I remember at school that we can admiring other friends work and appreciate their skills, but not here. we thought that other people skills are a threat for their business.
Well, basically the market also don't really understand about the design also and what is the importance of design and brand itself, all of these business designers just trying to kill the price down so the new talented designers can't survive. They just gonna hire a cheap salary designer (I would say operators) to do their cheap works.

Suddenly all of the market for design business aren't that good -___-;
well it is still a long way to discuss about this now, and I'm still trying to monitor the weird and unique market for Surabaya until today.
All the designers needs are just a unity to build Surabaya a better place.

oh and other things are, they need to build a better quality than quantities too.
We just need a small step to create a change rite?

Wow! finally my ipad has arrived, it's actually I bought this for my wife. She help me a lot when I had a meeting with client. So I think it's suitable for her for taking meeting notes and directly email to client.

First of all that I am glad she like it, and surprisingly it's better than my expectation. I honestly use and play with it more often than her.

Well, I actually ordered the ipad in US, a friend of mine who has living there for more than 10 years decide to come back to this country Indonesia. I thought that it's better to buy from Singapore or HongKong, as the price in Indonesia is not making sense at all.
The 16Gb wifi ipad is sell for Rp 8.500.000 (us$900) when it first sale. but now the price tag is reduce way to Rp7.500.000 (us$ 800)
but still expensive ae?

overall the ipad is pretty amazing if you have been using iPhone or iPod touch. it just bigger screen. and it's so comfortable to use. haven't try it to play some games tho, but most if my app is been updated for ipad. so it's pretty amazing to see the differences :)

My favorite is reading the magazin on zinio and manga :)
the only lack is multi tasking, as u know the Internet in Indonesia is very slow, I rather try to open other apps while it's still loading -___-;

Restart and Restore the Mind

It's been a while since my last blog, I have been very busy lately with my new company for Branding and Advertising.
And finally I can take a break for a week, to restore my mind and restart everything, so I can keep focus on my vision.

Right now I'm sitting at Starbucks (like always) and there is 2 man seat in front of me, I can see that one is client and the other one is sure Designer (I think interior)
This person is pretty old, about 40+ maybe almost 50, and the client maybe around late 50s or maybe already 60 years old. While I'm watching them, well they talk pretty loud (this is normal for Surabaya people, somehow they can't really talk calmly)
Well I can hear almost everything they talk, but I realize how sad to be a designer in Surabaya, I can say he maybe a senior designer... but somehow he just can't put out his idea, he brought this wallpaper samples, and just recommend his client about this and that, and only say that is nice combine with this one... and the client just refuse it, client say its not match... and he just keep silent, and then continue saying that's should be nice... and keep going like this most of the times.

Where is the concept? I am sure he doesn't have concept or idea for what he is doing, basically he is just trying to sell things... so sad, this guy should understand his limit and hire an interior designer to help for this discussion, and hopefully can hire a good interior designer to come up with a good concept to convince his client... rather just focusing selling.

I hope this people in this city can learn fast and realize their limit... somehow they are just so hard to share and give jobs for others... all they want to just handle everything, so they can get all the profit...

well this is my last update.... now I'm going back to find my own way in this city -____-;

Telkom new LOGO

Well, here is the new logo of Telkom Indonesia. First the new concept for this design is "life is confident". The new tag line is "The world is in your hand".

hmmm, I wonder how they can start to approve this design? that's my first question. I don't say that I'm very good at creating logo, but honestly this logo doesn't show what the concept is.

It's like designed by amateur/1st year designer (sorry if you are the one who read this blog).

well I can see the hand clearly, somehow it looks like a doomsday (i would suggest the designer to hire an illustrator)

The design also didn't really show what the concept of confident, I don't see any confident part of this logo... the color, the font type, not even the doomsday icon.

The thing is this kind of projects, I don't wanna be judgmental about this yet, but it seem not done it in proper way. (u know what I mean ... )

A lot of pitching or tendering projects here in Indonesia are not done it professionally.

Somehow the one who won the bid doesn't come out with the best result, or even concept. so there is a big "?" ... how they get it.

Then when we found out, that somehow the person who won the bid is related to the person who is in charge, or some family member.

Me and friends facing this kind of situation quite often when we doing the pitching for some projects.

I hope telkom really did mean it to change their way of business and services.

"the world is in your hand" is more sound like "your world is in our hand"

as telkom is holding 90% of telecommunication in Indonesia alone.

as the previous tag line was "committed 2 u" was more "committed 2 ur money" instead of service.

Canon 1D Mark IV & Nikon D3s

Latest news about the professional DSLR is pretty shocking after a few weeks ago the announcement about new Nikon D3s that has an iso of 12800 and boost up to 102400!

well I'm looking forward to see how that iso works result -___-;

I guess Nikon has to reduce the list price for the D3s, as for my perspective now that canon 1D mark IV is a better value~

Summary review are:

Nikon D3s 12Mpx, HD video 720p, native ISO 200-12800

Canon 1D Mk4 16Mpx, Full HD video 1080p, native ISO 100-12800

I'm a nikon user, and I'm using Nikon D3 ... and I love that camera, the results is superb, even on ISO 6400. But, now I'm starting to think to invest for my 2nd camera on Canon's cameras like Canon 5D mk2, which offer a better value than Nikon D700.

Then D3s announced, that start to give me a 2nd thought to get that instead -___-;;;

for US$5000 basically you can get any the best DLSR out there ... while Nikon D3x is not my option rite now ...

I guess I just have to wait a few more month to decide which is my 2nd camera. Once I get a canon I have to buy a few canon L lenses too, where I already have a few Nikon lenses that I need.

Let's see if Nikon will release a D4 soon or D3H or whatever ...

iPhone 3G in Indonesia

Statistic data the iphone doesnt sell much than blackberry, True! I have about 150-200 friends on my Blackberry messenger list, and I still can count how many friends who has iPhone (including me)
hmmmm 6 people! yes... six, and I have 2 uncle that use iPhone too, so its tottal 8 people.

Here is my opinion why iphone cant sell that much here in Indonesia. first ... blame it to telkomsel who provide a bad service and trying ripped us off.

Mostly who is interested in iPhone are young people (highschool to university students) and older people (50yo +)
like my uncle choose iphone because of the bigger screen, and somehow easy to understand the GUI.
Young people think its cool, and fun gamea with ipod.
clearly this is the main market in Indonesia. but somehow the campaign from telkomsel doesnt really point to the target, why?

Price
the first iphone 2G sold about Rp15.000.000 (wow! so many zeroes! well its about us$1600) yes rite, the shops imported the phone and sell like wild fire, and people still buy it. until drop to about Rp13.000.000 (us$1300) for iphone 3G unlocked.
Then Telkomsel become the official provider for iphone 3Gs.
But the iphone 3G 16gb sold about Rp 13.000.000 (us$1200) and not including the plan, and its locked! (and yes ... free 1Gb/month bandwidth! it's big if its a GPRS phone, and for 3G phone, this data will be used just for 3-6 days)
and so on and so on... down to Rp 9.605.000 (us$970)

so, some people (including me) bought their iphone from singapore, australia and hong kong for about Rp8.500.000 - Rp 9.000.000 and its unlocked!

now this is the biggest problem here...
telkomsel offer the best iphone package in their mind!
There is no unlimited data for the iphone, and still u pay for about Rp 800.000 us$80/ month!!!

So, If only student and older people who interested for iPhone ... here is what happened~ the young people can't afford that, and who is smart enough will not get fooled by Telkomsel's stupid plan. The one who can afford it, is mostly can afford to go singapore or hong kong and get one for themself rite?
So who bought the iphone? not sure who -___-;
for sure they don't use the iphone plan from telkomsel... the rather use the 3G plan from telkomsel called Flash (including me)

Another case is the ... uhm ... well 3G signal, and their fooled campaign~

Telkomsel Flash Price change without notice!

Again! another crap done by telkom company, this time they change the package without notice. this morning I just receive sma from telkomsel that my flash have been downgrade it, and pay Rp50.000 if I want to get the speed back.
Oh then I just remember the bill I paid online a few days ago, then I check my mailbox to see if the bill letter is there, and yea it's there, then I open it...
it charges for Rp 493.347! and Rp405.500 is for the Internet use!!!!

finally telkom fix my bandwidth, and change it to Game package.
after 3 month of complains!!! and how did they listen? i got the technician mobile number from a friend, so i directly call him.
guess what? telkom did cappedmy modem to 384Kbps! and he just change it back....

hmmm let see how fast the SPEEDY Game is

256Kbps upstream
*Im not sure if its enough speed to play PS3 online...

Its not a surprise after test isnt it? its 131Kbps average speed and the upload is not much different from 64Kbps

As you can see there is still no changes after I change their Game 1Mbps Package.

The modem firmware still showing 384Kbps downstream (download) 95Kbps upstream (upload)

Today I talked with the service center staff name Ety, she is still answering like a robot... no matter how many kind of person you speak to, they have the same answer, the same respond, it seem that they already thought that way... they don't listen to you, just saying what they thought.

So how can we protest about this? still I have no idea... there is no Consumer Protection in Indonesia.

Let see tomorrow... I can just update this blog everyday to make a report about telkom + speedy....

just back from telkom plasa (office service branch)
It started when I sense that my Internet is slower than normal since I came back from new Zealand.
the thing is happened before and it was a cable problem. so I call to the service center about thespeed, they said they will contact me back and sent a person to check. until today (already 3 month) no one contact or call me, and no one check my situation.

so today I decided to go to their office and check. well they have a new program called multispeed...
which is u pay unlimited (they say) and pay based on the speed you want.
so they have a few option for customer...
starting with family pack 384Kbps for about Rp360.000 ($40)
up to 3Mbps for about Rp 1.600.000 ($170)

to the point. they hve change my speed without notice! I paid unlimited for 1Mbps and paid for about Rp 860.000 ($90)
hmmm I think okay, just let it go... then I decided to change my package then... and the person said...
"if you change now, you have to pay both package, because the package is already running for this month" and if you don't want, just go back and come again the end of this month!
WTF!!

someone should stop this monopoly... I'm getting tired with this he'll of company....

I was talking with a friend that he thought that blackberry start the popularity of qwerty keyboard -___-;

as He doesn't really know the world outside indonesia I guess, the Blackberry get a big popularity this year 2009, and suddenly everyone see that all mobilephone company releasing a qwerty phone ...

it's funny and interesting when you know someone actually think and understanding is only limit to their own world.

Here is the problem over here in Indonesia, people are just hard and doesn't really do effort on research before any action.

some magazine or media actually put the wrong fact (honestly .. it was all wrong)

My blackberry receive a lot of massages in the morning talk about another blast in JW mariott and ritz Carlton hotel, bad news in the morning, just make another day.

we never sure what is the purpose of this bomber, some say it's a fireworks.
Whoever did it, please stop it! you are ruining this country and it's people.

since the first bomb incident in Bali, every hotel have their security check on the gate, but I guess jus like what the Indonesian like to do, it's only formality. Most of them didn't really check, except in Bali, but I'm not sure how they will handle this later in a better way.
the funny thing in Surabaya especially, the security seem enjoying to checking people's car rather than caution with a bomb threat, some public mall they have reported to lost some laptops and other valuable thing when they left it in the car. somehow it's conected with the security person who checking out the car earlier.

Just hope that the people will more have responsible and stop killing and hurting people.

Basically I take picture with my mobile phones, from Sony Ericsson W900 (SOLD) , LG KU900 and now iPhone 3G and Blackberry bold. (now I carrying this in my pocket) and my favorite pocket camera Ricoh GR II digital.

I believe to take a good picture doesn't need a high-end camera :) well to see the quality differences then you need a good camera, but I believe everything is only a tools and it can't limit your creativity. Art is suppose to be created right? it's not something you can always depend on gadgets.

Here is the differences between a Photographers and Hobbyist, I wouldn't say that a hobbyist is a bad photographers, but there is also a few types of Hobbyist too :)

so Which one are you?

Gadget Nerds:

this kind of hobbyist is more care about the latest technology, the features, and sometimes forget about the art itself -___-; (don't you think so?)

they may buy everything for their collection, and they don't even know how to use it all.

Their minds are, better gadget is better picture :)

Pictures takers:

well this type is more likely they are enjoying to taking pictures, which I think this type is more a correct way to say Hobby. and I'm sure they love photography.

They like to go hunting (photography session with a group)

Street Pictures:

This type is more individual I guess, the camera they are using also normally Lomo, Polaroid, and whatever they like. and their picture normally breaking all the rules photography, they like experiment photography, and take pic of whatever they like.

So which one are you?

I have been all of them I guess, I'm a gadget person so I do like to buy the toys lol, but I'm not really enjoying taking pictures with a group, i think it's disturbing in my personal opinion.

I do love street photography, which I love the most... so I guess I'm the combination of both type, but the thing is I can't afford everything, because this is my job T____T

I have to calculate everything as an investment.

Finally! I can use my iPhone 3G without jailbreak-ing it, here is how to do it:

Just visit to this website:

fill in the custom carrier or if you can find your carrier there. Mine is using Telkomsel, even there is a telkomsel on the option but I have a different plan and setting from telkomsel, so I have to choose a custom carrier.

Telkomsel 3G unlimited 256Kbps Package

APN: Internet

User ID: wap (or you can leave it blank)

Password: wap123 (or you can leave it blank)

then restart your iphone.

NOTE: don't change the setting for MMS, or you will lose the tethering setting, if you did accidentally change it, just reinstall the setting and restart it :)

I just came back from Pecha-kucha night Surabaya, and this is the first pecha-kucha night in Surabaya, I hope this event can bring up the creative world in Surabaya.

I do have a doubt about this event, if it fit to Surabaya's culture. I can say that the event is pretty success for the first time, that around 200 people registered on the guest book.

Some of the organizer for the event is the people I knew, we did work some project together in the past. Well it's good that someone can bring out this kind of event here in Surabaya, I hope it will keep continue and get better.

Surabaya is a nice city to live, but it's a nightmare for creative worker (like me and others). Basically it's all industry that build the economy in Surabaya, and most of them don't have marketing department (where they have is sales and put them as marketing)

So I hope with this event will start to open the mind of Surabaya about creative world.

On the event I saw a friend, client, student, and well maybe celebrity ... I knew some of them are born and grew up in Surabaya, then move and work in Jakarta. Every one of them have a better career in Jakarta now, and I keep wondering why it's hard to make in happen in Surabaya ... why?

Jakarta is the center of economy in Indonesia (for sure), the marking base for any industry is in Jakarta, while the production or industrial part is based in Surabaya and other cities.

Well somehow I'm still surviving in this city, and the truth is without any marketing too ... all my clients is from word of mouth.

The style of business between Surabaya and Jakarta also different too, while in Surabaya people are more into family style of business, but in Jakarta is more into business relationship somehow (well, something you have to work hard to get a relation/networking with the right people) Basically it's a similar but just different kind of way to approach.

Where in Surabaya I can say the people is pretty friendly to meet new people, and some is very cautions about stranger, but once you get introduced by their friends, everything come easier.

While in Jakarta, the people are cooler at first, until you can bring up something (I guess). I used to study high-school in Jakarta for almost a year, and I learn how the friendship is also different too, culture also different, how they joke is different, and it was my first time I finally facing culture shock even in the same country hahahah.

To make friends with them somehow you need an effort for it, bring yourself closer to them, and try to be part in society. Well this is what I've learnt.... and I think it's similar on the business world too.

While my character wasn't be able do something like that, most of my friends are naturally become friends with me without doing any effort. So this is a bit confusing sometime, I know some people are enjoying to be "kissed" on their ass I guess lol. But it is how it works and I can't deny it.

Well I still hoping that I and some friend can make Surabaya a better city :)

I wish that one day all the creative people can have the same value, that is value their work and themselves, and starting the set a normal fee, and brave to fight with quality, not price cut and discounts where lead all the creative work to the end.

I guess I will just continue this writing another day, it's already 3:56am

we have a thing in commom, most of us focusing on one thing, it is all about me and I
facing many people in my life, starting to show me a clear perspective about humanity... that is self center.

The thing is, for my personal opinion that the most self center the person is, the more poorer they are, or vice versa.
I am not really sure how it works but it might be that self centerness is causing the lack of success in their life.

Or! because of the problem they have, then their mind starting to be self centered...
I guess this life to success is depends on your self, but keep pitty to yourself and being the center of yourself, will just keep us away from friends and the things that we can do. Because we are just keep focusing to ourself, our problem, our rights and forget to focus about the future.

well for now this is what I think, how about me? I do have these kind of problem when I am feeling down. I think if we can win from this, that we are more successful in life :)

what a surprise that someone just copy my design!

well it's somehow not upsetting me, nor I care ... it just sad that some company just copying a logo/image from another company (especially from different country)

I bet they didn't know that the designer are actually from the same country lol

The design I created for Waroeng Penyet on 2006 is originally design based on the concept of Indonesian food, spicy and chicken is the common favorite for it.

The font I did just use a common font, it was more into the Icon & mascot of the chicken, and the brand color.

Somehow the Dapoer Penyet, is actually following the brand of Waroeng Penyet. the fonts, the color, well not the chicken but change to cow somehow.

this is what happened when the purpose of the school/university is to make profit, not for education purposes.

It's funny that the school try to sell and not looking for a good student... you can enter to design school without any portfolio or test.

the main problem with the design students now are;

1. Lack of team working

2. Misunderstood

3. no problem solving

4. debate more than communication

5. lack of ideas

6. assumptions is everything

7. lack of responsibility

8. They think they already know everything, actually know nothing yet

Import TAX

Finally I get the package what I've waiting for, BUT... there is a import tax charge.

I bought a few books from Amazon.com and spent about $229 (including shipping & handling) and there is no any import tax charge to me.

This is my first time I bough stuff from play-asia.com and they sent using UPS.

The UPS staff called me this morning, and mention about the tax that I have to pay about Rp598.000 (US$55)

I was curious that the package were stop by in Jakarta for the whole day, now I know why...

What make me upset were, the UPS staff were not very helpful to explain what it is about ... she is just confirm that everything above US$50 will be charge for import tax, which she also didn't answer my question how much is the tax normally, how many percent or whatever.

first of all, play-asia was late to sent the package, then this import tax thingy ...

So for everyone who read this post, (especially who live in Indonesia) be ready to pay the import tax!

Connection problem since early of this month (January 2009)

After I came back from Japan, the modem status was 512 for the Downstream, but now its even worse...

I've decide to call them yesterday, since it doesnt make any better and the situation is getting worse... it become 64 Downstream!

well the service person is talk politely (improvement) she said she gonna call me for confirmation which she doesn't, so I called her again today... the did call me for confirmation, but doesn't make my internet faster... and then she said to call me back again on 11AM (now is 11:44am)

I just getting worse...

I hope they will fix this today....

You don't see city decoration in creative way, it just the same every year since 10-15 years ago i think (since I study in New Zealand on 1996)
You dont really see kids dance anywhere, well they do ballet dance here in surabaya, ... NO information sign that is neat, clear, and attractive way.... no innovative coffee machine, and not even world class art exhibition...

ICA Artsfest - Mission Foot Step (auction)

On Sunday the 25th Nov is the last day for ArtFest... it's an auction day. Various Christian artist volunteer to put their work for the fund mission.
The money will go for missions, from Clay art, Paper art, Painting, Illustration, Graphic & Photography.

I submitted 15 Photograph & 2 Photobooks, 1 of my Photographic put on auction.
3 pieces of artwork (including mine) are auctioned on the sanctuary room. there is about 600 attenders (or maybe more).

The first piece is the Jonah, is sold for Rp2.500.000 (US$300)
The second piece is Photograph by Budi and sold for Rp7.500.000 (US$800)
My photograph is the last one, and it sold for Rp11.000.000 (US$1200)
I was surprised, it's the highest bid and in ICA history.
Well I didn't expect that high, but I don't want to be lowest either.
Anyway, I think they are just happy to spent money for ministry. May God bless them all.

Hiring 3D modeler from ITS

It's a big mistake!
I've been trying to partnership with Indonesian a couple a times, but the result always come out with disappointment.
Recently I hired a 3D artist name Yoyok Prasetiyo, a graduate from ITS (Institute of Technology Surabaya)
I hired him for some project a few years ago, especially for 3D object modeling when he is still studying at the ITS. we were satisfied with his work, even he did some minor mistakes.
and recently I just hired him again for my latest project. But that's a big mistake... I trusted him too much for this projects, which is actually he'd change.

Yoyok Prasetiyo has lack of his responsibilities of the project he promises he can finish on time, we have a hard time to contact him, he even ask for additional fees. The mistaken I made is I pay him upfront for the lebaran (Muslim holiday)

Be aware with this person. He is a nice person, but lack of professionalism with projects.

Refreshing the mind

Hey, got a little busy this daaaaaaaays,...
Go to singapore for a week for a food photoshoot for an indonesian restaurant, continue for a few days in Hangzhou (China) for Company profile photoshoot, go back to singapore to continue some photoshoot of the food, go back to surabaya for a week, then looking my identity to Nias for 2 weeks, go back to surabaya for a week, now in New Zealand for a wedding photo. and going to stay for another 2 weeks. phew...
never been feel so busy in my life before...

I'll upload some pictures soon, but I'm just too struggling with myself to move forward, my macbookpro harddrive is full, all my 3 external HDD also full... and just bought a new WD 1TB of external HDD. I NEED TO MANAGE ALL MY FILES AGAIN.

Let see if I can catch up with all my projects... I want to finish it all, and start my own projects :(

next investment

Just recently read the announcement of Nikon's new camera Nikon D3, the only FX(full frame) SLR camera from Nikon. This is the camera I've been waiting for, the announced price is US$4999.
But after a while, I'm considering to get a mediun digital format for my professional work as a Commercial/advertising photographer, since I found mamiya release a digital medium format under US$10000 (well it's $9999) called Mamiya ZD , considering the quality and needs for advertising photography this is absolute serious business.

I've been using mamiya with PhaseOne P21 Digital for my previous project, and the result are superb to meets my quality requirement.
One of the dream camera is Hasselblad H3D cost around US$30000, but I'm more considering to get Hasselblad 503CWD which looks more classic and since I've been using Rolleyflex for medium format, I like the feeling to hold a classic camera.
But considering budget and market, this one will be hard to get. The only option I have now is Nikon D3 or Mamiya ZD.
Both of them haven't release the camera yet, I'm not sure about mamiya, but D3 will surely come out on Nov. Let see which one will I get for my next investment.

Just happening with telkom ISP, it just put a heavy line for uploading.... what can we do for 23kb/s??? sending 512Kb attachment mail feel like you sending a tons of megabytes emails.

What happened to IndosatM2?

after 3 month using 3G wireless internet of IndosatM2, the quality of the speed is keep decreasing somehow...
I pay 2gb/month package for Rp650.0000 (US$70) per month. This is very disappointing... I mean it's expensive but yet still lack of quality.
If they can manage the bandwidth, it should be more profitable for their company rite? as we use it without realizing the bandwidth we've using. but this slow...?
Another thing is, it kept idle/not responding after a few minutes of using. So you need to disconnected the line, and reconnect it again to get connection.
The upload speed is still pretty good, considering I like to send attachment files, uploading files to my server.

They better fix this, or I'll just move to another ISP. The only problem is I already contract for a year with a free USB 3.5G modem HUAWEI E220
But I guess this situation make me in bad position, cause they will charge me Rp2.500.000 (US$280) if I cancel the contract.

Recently also try to use another 3G ISP by Telkomsel called Flash which they offer more options to use, there is no contract, and based by time. It's nice when it fast, but I can't connect it with my macbookpro recently, already almost a week I can't use it on my macbookpro.
It cost Rp50.000 for 24hours of usage within a week (US$6) which is not a bad deal. But when we can get connected and the valid time is out. we will lost our $6.
the speed is pretty promising, but let see for another couple of month.

not bad, so we have another isp using mobilephone 3.5G system
the rate is hourly, about US$7 for 24 hours, not bad if the speed is fast enough, even is not fast enough compare to real broadband.

Something is missing in my life, where I learn more about art? I lost my inspiration since my life is become more stable, does art came out only when we depressed?
I've been thinking about this since then... I wonder when I can get inspiration from happiness, when I feel joy and peace...

I love art, and always do... even somehow I'm lost in it too. I draw to express my feeling, I design for others, I photograph for capturing moments... I'm not sure that art is for commercial, but it sure can sell...

great art are created by own inspiration, and sold later. where my work now, use my art sense to sell for others, which is very hard now, to combine art and commercial use in my country. where people doesn't really understand about art, or I can say don't have any sense of art at all.

we have a culture where the people are not proud of it anymore... we almost losing it, the original culture... where they down the quality of it's own art. it is sad to face the reality of this country, I wonder where we are in a hundred years from now.

Check the TV, Magazine, Live, Songs and others... the sold more a bunch of crap. where the true art, and talented artist are still unknown. I know they are out there struggling to survive. and they don't bother to get fame. And businessmen don't really know how to use them too.
I hope it will change better soon.

a month ago I was get a special company's modem, where the modem are not cap by the company... and can speed up to 2Mbps.
but now... it's over... my internet are not faster than 256Kbps~
I guess ... welcome back to earth (Indonesia)
where the internet bandwidth is monoply by someone, where people doesnt really complaining about this, as this is also one of our rights, where most of the people are more protest about unusual things, like pornography, religious and other funny things.

Wii tried

I tried wii at a friend's house last saturday... it was fun at first, but not like what I expected... haven't tried all the games yet... I played wii sport, zelda, dragon ball & (something surgery game)

I can say zelda is really good (like always) but can't really play dragon ball... it looks good and innovative, but it seems lack of controlling the game (I believe it takes time to mastering the control) wii sports it's fun, but not as much as I thought it would be.

my conclusion about wii is, this console has a new experience in gaming, but still need to be improve. I get bored after a few minutes play some of the game, except zelda.
wii sports are fun when played with others, but not when I play alone...
I like the menu system, and the vibration can interactively feel the button (that's great)
the speaker on the controller is just genius (hopefully it can be use for a mic too)

it surely fun to have it, and be able to play it with your family/friends ... especially my wife (she doesn't enjoy game that much except locorocco PSP & wii sports)

I still want to get it though ...

hmmm personally I still can enjoy PS3 more... when you play by yourself especially ...

Something about 360

Just otw to buy Xbox 360, then I found out that 360 got some hardware issues... so I do more of a research about the product... well most of the people I knew they admit that it really have some problem with heat... maybe the 360 push the processor too much (over clock it) or something... and cause an over heat problem...

well it's funny I was checking it on wikipedia, where I love to read something from there...
they even write about the problem of 360 here

so i think I gonna see another time, after they release the new limited edition then... it's somehow funny to think that ... when the console start to have an upgrade product so soon... i wonder how they felt who just bought it today or the day before the limited edition release. I think microsoft got some missunderstanding about console, this is not computer where you can upgrade every month... the thing to buy console is to invest for long term investment...

hmmm I can't wait to get my wii on this june ^_^;

The internet in Indonesia have really a bandwidth problem, especially in my city. but recently I use one of the internet cable service provider, while I wanted to use the internet directly, so the company let me use one of the company's modem. I know that the speed are limited to 64Kbps, but see the result when I'm using their modem... it's between 1.5Mbps to 1.9Mbps

I wish i can hold their modem longer ^_^;;;
I wish that the internet cable in Indonesia are at least this fast... I don't mind to pay a bit more actually....
